[He's running a few regular errands when it happens. It's pure chance that he turns and sweeps the market with his gaze, and spots none other than the man who sent him and Adam to Hell: Sam Winchester. A man who, last Michael had heard, had been calling another nation entirely home.
Maybe whatever force that draws them to Abraxas decided a man of his height was less out of place among Solvunn's Summoned. Whatever the reason, he's not pleased to see him.
The flapping of unseen wings announces his arrival. Michael appears nearby, just outside of arm's reach.]
Sam, what a surprise to see you here. [Not the good kind; his tone reflects his mood.] Shouldn't you be in the Free Cities?
[ By now that heralding noise has created a Pavlovian response in Sam and if not for Cas being in his life, he might well have turned to his now-natural instinct to strike out immediately at the ruffling of wings. Instead, he merely tenses, slowly turning to level his gaze on Michael.
As always, it's hard to look. Sam's jaw tighens and he does his level best to look unaffected by the question. ]
I'm not here to keep an eye on you, if that's what you're thinking.
[ Although he doesn't imagine for one second that Michael will believe that's the whole and only truth; Sam will be keeping an eye out, but Michael won't be the only one he watches, nor will he be Sam's only concern.
Sam lifts a bouquet of something that may be a flower or may be some kind of fancy lettuce. ]
[Sam wouldn't be the first to respond to his sudden appearance with instinctive violence, but it's for the best that he doesn't. Michael is not known for his forgiving nature and heirloom lettuce doesn't make for much of a weapon.
Michael spares a glance at the greenery but his expression doesn't lighten.]
No, I don't expect you're eager to relive our time in the Cage.
[Which isn't to say that he believes Sam won't be keeping an eye on him, just that he doubts Sam would actively choose to live in the same region. Their last experience as roommates wasn't very pleasant. More likely he was dragged here, same as the rest of them. Still, the question of whether or not he's staying—]
Working on a way to get back to your brother in between meals, I trust?
[The other one, with the intact soul, not the shell he's presently inhabiting.]
[ It would normally be (virtually) impossible for someone to ignore that there are two brothers to choose from, but this is a Winchester we're talking about and it's not like anyone with that last name can claim a very good record of remembering this fact. But every once in a while Sam remembers Adam. Occasionally. Too bad he's too embarrassed by a fraction (or too dedicated to avoidance of the subject) to make the point. ]
Actually, I've been wrangling goats the last couple of days.
[ The less he tells Michael, the better he'll feel. Nevermind that Sam isn't working that hard at all to get back the the Free Cities. He is working hard on a pretty legitimate salad, however, and trades some coin for a few root vegetables. ]
If you want to avoid me in the meantime, I come Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.
[ That is, as long as he doesn't see Michael, he'll keep his word. But the first time he gets that stalking sense... ]
That's not how this works. You want to see less of me, you work around my schedule.
[He's been here a year and change, he's not going to alter his patterns to suit the man that left both him and his younger brother in Hell. Active stalking is not in Michael's plans either, though his habit of appearing in the blink of an eye and in the strangest of places might make Sam feel like he's being watched. Trouble follows the Winchesters and he isn't eager to get caught up in any of it. That's the true source of his annoyance at finding him here—Solvunn faces enough disturbances as it is.
Michael gets a look from the seller, but it's brief and not followed by any offers. Having no appetite of his own, it's not often that he trades charms or favours for vegetables.]
You're avoiding the question. [Which he's reading as potential intent to stay in Solvunn long term.] Why would you want to remain here?
